Family disputes can be stressful enough without wondering what the mediation is going to cost. Family disputes can become very expensive when they move into prolonged lawyer-to-lawyer negotiations or court proceedings.

Our fixed-fee Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) so you know the cost before you start.

​

Our aim is to provide a professional, practical and affordable alternative to allowing a dispute to escalate into lengthy negotiations or court proceedings. Our charges are as follows:

Initial discussion   -    Free

 

A short, confidential conversation to discuss your circumstances, explain how FDR works and determine whether the process may be suitable for you.

There is no obligation to proceed.

Intake & suitability assessment   -   $250 per person

​

Before mediation, I meet privately with each participant for an individual intake and assessment.   This is an important part of the FDR process. It provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns, understand the issues in dispute and assess whether mediation is appropriate and safe.

​

The session is confidential and generally takes up to 60 minutes. If parties proceed to mediation there is no charge for this session.

​

Half-day FDR mediation  -   $2,000 total  ($1,000 per person)

​

Includes:

• Individual intake and suitability assessment

• Preparation for mediation

• Up to 4 hours of joint FDR mediation

• Assistance identifying and working through the issues in dispute

• A Section 60I Certificate where appropriate​

​

The mediation can be conducted online or, where appropriate, in person.

​

Need more time? 

 

Extended mediation   -    $2,800 total   ($1,400 per person)

​

For matters that require more time to work through the issues.

Includes up to 6 hours of mediation, together with the individual intake and assessment process.

​

Additional mediation time  -   $350 per hour

​

If both parties agree to continue beyond the booked mediation period, additional time can be arranged at $350 per hour. The cost can be shared equally between the parties or allocated in another way by agreement.

All quoted pricing is +GST.

Section 60I Certificate  -  $150 (if required without a booked mediation)

​

Where appropriate, I can issue a Section 60I Certificate following the FDR process.

The certificate may be issued in circumstances where mediation is not appropriate, cannot proceed, or the parties have participated but have been unable to resolve their parenting dispute.

A note about legal advice

FDR is a dispute resolution process, not legal representation.

We do not act for either party and cannot provide independent legal advice to either person.

You are welcome to obtain independent legal advice before or during the FDR process, and I encourage you to do so where you need advice about your legal rights or the implications of a proposed agreement.

Keeping FDR accessible

​

Private FDR is generally considerably less expensive than allowing a family dispute to progress through prolonged lawyer-to-lawyer negotiations or court proceedings.
